Random Talking: Gujarat

Recently in Ahmedabad, news of riots floating up because of that adulterated liquor case. It just made me remember those days when Godhra riots started, I was there in Ahmedabad and startled by those solitary roads which in my 14 years span I have never witnessed. The days were quite unwell with not a single person seen on roads and the condition seems like never ending. Rumors and bad news were constant companion, ruminants of burnt shop with news of thefts and burglary were on high. Somehow, things started changing and riots got over but then we had tales of our muslim friends sharing their woes. Gujarat as a state is a different mechanism altogether. We have segregated lands in Ahmedabad city itself , there are separate places where Hindu resides and different place where SC/ST lives and Kalupur, lal darwaja area was for muslims. Ahmedabad has its own definite boundaries and they are defined strictly, I also remember how a Realtor has strictly mentioned that its buildings are open for Hindu society and after a lot of media hulla-gulla its been removed.
In Gujarat these things are normal and people prefer it this way only. When you go for rent they ask for whether Hindu and which Hindu (read caste) if you doesn't belong to their community you will be shown door. The community matters there and Hinduism more so, there Brahmans and Baniyas are big play master. They decide upon the ruling parties and decide their stay and I have also seen people from SC/ST constantly striving to be a part of this upper cult, a kind of inferiority has prevailed them and thus they become more secluded from other communities and confined within theirs. Now they are resorting to their own political games in competition with upper castes, they play their own rules with no preferences to right or wrong but what matters is whether they succeed in giving the right answers to these upper castes. Ahmedabad with its segregations, is making a society of rift, where everybody is competing with other Amdavadi. Though I like the place and its serenity gives me those kicks but what is unexplored is this segregation and yes if you called Narendra Modi a devil or culprit, you are so wrong. Its in Ahmedabad's culture and people prefer it this way only, regarding Narendra Modi, he only satisfied consumer “emotional(EQ)” demand which is a required political wisdom , only difference is that in previous era it was positively inclined but now how does it matter as the governing line is, “to be a winner”.

P.S. : This case also represents how leadership definition got changed in recent years, its not about bringing change in people's mindset but getting into their mindset. But it is also justified if after achieving short term goals one look in development issues and big (read: long term) goals. I don't know what Gujarat CM is achieving now for the people there as I already left the place for long. Change in attitude speaks a lot which I am not witnessing. Comments are welcome to help in building insight.
